Women in Media : Fighting Stereotypes

The state of working women journalists in India is quite discouraging. They are constantly battling discrimination at workplace in terms of salary, promotions, amenities, benefits, areas of work allotted and sexual harassment.

In its recent report, 'Status of Women Journalists in India', the National Commission for Women claims that many women journalists (even from established newspapers) work as daily wage labour, without an appointment letter, signing a muster roll at the end of the month to get something between Rs 1,500/ to 3000/-. The women journalists working in regional and vernacular dailies get even less than that amount.

To frame new guidelines for working women journalists, MICCI will hold four seminars.
